Basseterre 1997 Rhum Vieux

The rum is titled, Basseterre, after its island home. The meaning of which is "Lowland." This and a 1995 vintage were bottled in 2008.

Both the 1995 and 1997 vintage casks were discovered by Luca Gargano as he sought to widen his catalogue of Guadeloupe rums following a successful initial collaboration with Damoiseau.

Although from the Carrère distillery, both rums are actually blends of its own cane juice rum with a small portion of sourced molasses-based spirit. Once a common practice at the distillery, it has since fallen out of favour as focus has turned more firmly towards its Montebello label.
