Rum Refinery of Mount Gay Ltd

Rum Refinery of Mount Gay Ltd was one of two companies established by the Ward family in 1975 after the partitioning of their former Fairfield & Mount Gay Ltd business. At the time the sugar industry in Barbados was struggling and the decision was made to separate its sugar estates from its distilling business. The former was placed in the control of Fairfield Investments Ltd while Rum Refinery of Mount Gay inherited the distillery in Saint Lucy.

The company did not own the Mount Gay brand however, which belonged to a third business called Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd. it did distil the rum for it though, as well as several other brands such as the Mount Gilboa label. The distillery and brand were reunited in 2014 when Rum Refinery of Mount Gay Ltd was acquired by Rémy Cointreau.
